Last fall, from October 26-30, 2011, more than 600 climbers gathered with our team for Petzl RocTrip China. All participants discovered and enjoyed more than 250 brand new pitches on unbelievable limestone especially prepared for the event.

Among the highlights of the film, watch Dani Andrada’s first ascent of the extremely difficult 7-pitch Corazon de Ensueno (8c/5.14b), a route he put up in 2010 over the course of two trips to the area to prepare for the RocTrip. For this outstanding feat, Dani was awarded Climbing Magazine’s prestigious Golden Piton.

Other sequences include Steph Bodet and Arnaud Petit sending their project, Lost in Translation (8a+/5.13c), Gabriele Moroni’s first ascent of Coup de Bambou (9a/5.14d), as well as other images of spectacular climbs up and down the valley.

Judy met George while on a sailing trip in the Caribbean. They fell in love, married, and began an active life in Vermont. From the moment Judy discovered she had progressive multiple sclerosis, life for the couple began to change in ways they could have never predicted. By the summer of 2011, Judy had long lost her ability to walk and most of the motion in her upper body. George had become a full time caregiver. This is the story of how Sophie, a capuchin monkey, came to change both of their lives.

This was shot April 15th at the no tankers rally in Victoria, BC. It is time for everyone to get involved in this struggle for our coast. The Northern Gateway pipeline and tanker proposal is simply not worth it. I will not sacrifice 100′s of years of our pristine coastline and thousands of livelihoods that depend on it, for 5 years of BC jobs. Anyone that lives on this coast knows, that it’s just a bad idea. Ask any sailor, our waters are a tough sail, the thousands of rivers, inlets, and rocky shores are absolutely no place for a supertanker.

Visit notankers.ca to sign their petition.

If you have any questions on how to get involved effectively or want to do more visit dogwoodinitiative.org/no-tankers/do-more or contact Dogwood Initiative directly.

To another 100 years of tankers off our coast!

Last episode, the crew journeyed into the Saharan dunes for a romantic evening with camels and two days lathered in sunscreen. A three day break altogether from skating makes them eager to get back on the road, starting from Ourzazate, traveling east through Valee Du Dades, coincidentally for the Festival of the Roses in El Kelaa M’gouna. Passing off the festival and opting to skate the Gorge du Dades, one of the most radical designs in roadwork, the Long Treks team skates into the massive Gorge. Unfortunately, Adam is the last of the three to be struck with a powerful and tormenting stomach flu. Need not to go into detail, Aaron and Paul enjoy a day of skating switchback after switchback in the famous Moroccan Gorge.

Dear friends,

Some of you may have seen media coverage about my decision to step off the board of directors of the David Suzuki Foundation. I am writing to tell you more about this and what it means.

After my children and grandchildren, my greatest pride is the David Suzuki Foundation.

I am fiercely proud of how the Foundation brings science and solutions to environment problems. I’m determined to ensure that the Foundation continues to have the ability to solve critical environmental issues and bring hope for the future.

But I have reached a point in my life where I would like to consider myself an elder. I want to speak freely without fear that my words will be deemed too political, and harm the organization of which I am so proud. I am keenly aware that some governments, industries and special interest groups are working hard to silence us. They use threats to the Foundation’s charitable status in attempts to mute its powerful voice on issues that matter deeply to you and many other Canadians.

This bullying demonstrates how important it is to speak out.

The Foundation’s science-based, solutions-oriented research and educational work has enriched our democracy and reflected Canadian values for two decades. While not always happily received by governments or industrial interests, this work is strictly non-partisan, as required by the laws governing charities, and has made the Foundation one of the most trusted environmental voices in Canada.

Our opponents, however, are redoubling their efforts to marginalize the Foundation by getting at me, personally.

So last year, I made the decision to step off the board of directors of the David Suzuki Foundation. I remain one of its most active volunteers and committed major donors. This way I can fulfill my personal mission and the Foundation can continue to build on its inspiring work—for us and our grandchildren—in finding solutions to our shared, and very real, environmental challenges.

I hope you understand this decision and will continue to show your, steadfast support for my work in this concrete way:

Please share this letter with your family and friends and, at this critical moment, invite them to become supporters of the David Suzuki Foundation, by joining our online community or donating today.

Sincerely,
David Suzuki
